LDMS 9.5 Fresh install - Connecting to SQL db through custom port issue

Preface: I'm the new Landesk administrator in my company, I previously used landesk for a year or so approximately 4 years ago. That organization moved to SCCM2007 and I'm just getting my footing back into LANDesk.

So... not sure if I'm the only one running into this. When attempting to set up a new core server on a new enviroment, I could NOT get the install to connect to the db and install the core.

  1. DB is on the local server same as the Core install
  2. OS is Server 2008 R2, DB is SQL2008 (no sp)
  3. Landesk 9.5 download and selected Core install
  4. Instance is called landesk (server1.domain.local\landesk)
  5. local sql account is an SA (now)
  6. Custom port (in this case we will use 51402)
  7. Clicked "Test Connection" before continuing and connection passed.

It will fail every time at "configuring datamart", but passes the test.

Steps I did to get it to actually work

  1. Waited for failure in the configure datamart
  2. Regedit
  3. HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Landesk\ManagementSuite\Core\Connections\Local
  4. Edited "Server" from server1.domain.local\landesk  to server1.domain.local\landesk,51402
  5. Click Retry
  6. Rejoice as installer continues.

What am I doing to cause this issue, or did I miss something?

-----

Just tried it on my new rollup server, had to perform the same steps and it worked.
